Make.com API Integration & Scenario Development

Make.com (formerly Integromat) is a capable hosted automation platform. We build scenarios on it — and we tell you when your volume has made self-hosting cheaper.

Overview

What the Make.com API actually gives you.

Make.com connects hundreds of services through a visual scenario builder, and for a lot of businesses it is the fastest route from a manual process to an automated one. No infrastructure, no deployment, and a working automation the same day.

Its pricing is per operation. That is excellent while volumes are modest and becomes the main cost of your automation once they are not — and because each scenario run consumes operations, the bill grows with success. Knowing where that crossover sits is worth more than any individual scenario.

Capabilities

The parts you will actually use.

  • Scenario development — the automations themselves, with error handling rather than only the path where everything works.
  • API connections — to services without a ready-made module, via generic HTTP calls and proper authentication.
  • Webhooks — scenarios triggered by events from your own applications.
  • Data transformation — the mapping and reshaping between systems that never quite agree on structure.
  • Scheduling — recurring runs, with attention to what each one costs you in operations.
  • Operation efficiency — scenarios restructured to do the same work for fewer billable operations.
Scope

Where these projects actually get hard.

Reading the documentation is the easy half. These are the areas that decide whether an integration takes weeks or months — and the ones we scope carefully before quoting.

  • Operations are the cost model. A scenario that loops over records can consume an surprising number of operations per run. Restructuring for efficiency frequently cuts the bill substantially without changing what the automation does.
  • Error handling is opt-in. The platform makes the happy path so straightforward that it is easy to ship a scenario which has never been tested against a timeout.
  • Silent stalls. A deactivated scenario or an expired connection produces no complaint. Things just stop, and you find out when someone asks why they never got a confirmation.
  • Re-runs can duplicate. Anything writing to an accounting or booking system needs to be safe to run twice, and the platform will not enforce that for you.
  • Vendor lock-in is real. Scenarios are not portable. Migrating later is a rebuild, which is worth knowing before volumes grow rather than after.
  • Complexity has a ceiling. Large scenarios become genuinely hard to reason about and debug. Past a point, code is both cheaper and easier to maintain.
Our take

Which route is right for you.

We have no favourite here. Make.com is the right answer for modest volumes, for getting something working quickly, and where nobody wants to own infrastructure. We will build on it and build it properly.

Where volumes are high, or the workflows carry customer and financial data you would rather keep on your own infrastructure, self-hosted n8n does the same job with no per-operation charge — and we host and manage it. We also host the applications those workflows talk to. We will give you the arithmetic for your actual volume rather than a recommendation that happens to suit us.

What we build

Work we take on.

  • Scenario development — automations with real error handling, logging, and alerting.
  • Custom API connections — services with no ready-made module, connected via HTTP properly.
  • Operation-cost optimisation — existing scenarios restructured to cost less per run.
  • Scenario audits — a review of what your current automations do when something upstream fails.
  • Migration to self-hosted — onto managed n8n where the economics justify it, rebuilt rather than transcribed.
  • Hybrid architecture — hosted automation where it suits, custom services where it does not.
FAQ

Common questions

Our Make.com bill keeps growing. What can be done?

Two things. First, scenarios can usually be restructured to do the same work for far fewer operations — loops over records are the common culprit. Second, past a certain volume, self-hosted automation removes per-operation cost entirely. We will work out where your volume actually sits before recommending either.

Should we use Make.com or self-host n8n?

Make.com if volumes are modest, you want it working this week, and you would rather not own infrastructure. Self-hosted n8n if volumes are high, or the data in those workflows is sensitive enough that you want it on your own servers. We build both, so the answer you get is not driven by what we would prefer to sell.

Can you connect a service Make.com has no module for?

Yes, through generic HTTP calls with proper authentication. It is routine, though it does mean the scenario carries more of the logic itself, which makes error handling matter more.

Why do our scenarios keep breaking?

Most often the error handling was never added — the platform makes the happy path so easy that it is a natural thing to leave for later — or a connection expired with nothing set up to raise the alarm. Both are straightforward to fix, and an audit will tell you which you are dealing with.

Can you migrate our existing scenarios somewhere else?

Yes. Scenarios are not portable, so this is a rebuild rather than an export — which is the moment to add the error handling and monitoring the originals never had.
