Twilio API Integration

Twilio is how most businesses send SMS, WhatsApp, and voice programmatically. We wire it into your systems — and we monitor the sending, because this is a channel that fails quietly.

Overview

What the Twilio API actually gives you.

Messaging is the channel customers actually read. A booking reminder by SMS or WhatsApp gets seen in a way an email does not, which makes it valuable for anything time-sensitive: appointment reminders, delivery updates, operational alerts, two-factor codes.

The integration work is less about sending a message and more about everything around it: knowing who to message and when, handling replies, respecting opt-outs, and noticing when sending has stopped working. That last one matters more than people expect, because nothing about a message that was never sent looks like an error.

Capabilities

The parts you will actually use.

  • SMS — transactional and operational messaging, triggered by events in your own systems.
  • WhatsApp — business messaging through approved templates, including the approval process itself.
  • Voice — outbound calls, call flows, and recording where it is appropriate and lawful.
  • Two-way messaging — inbound replies routed into your help desk or operations rather than disappearing.
  • Verification — one-time codes and phone verification flows.
  • Delivery tracking — status for every message, which is the basis of knowing the channel is actually working.
Scope

Where these projects actually get hard.

Reading the documentation is the easy half. These are the areas that decide whether an integration takes weeks or months — and the ones we scope carefully before quoting.

  • Silent failure is the defining risk. Credentials lapse, a number gets suspended, a template is rejected — and the symptom is simply that customers stop receiving messages. Nobody reports a message they never received, which is why we monitor the sending itself and not just the server.
  • WhatsApp runs on templates and approval. Business messaging is not free-form, and template review is a process with its own timeline that belongs in the project plan.
  • Phone number formatting. International formats, country codes, and the many ways a number can be stored wrongly are a genuine and tedious source of failed delivery.
  • Regulation varies by country. Sender registration, consent rules, and quiet hours differ by market, and getting them wrong can mean blocked traffic rather than a warning.
  • Opt-outs must be honoured everywhere. A stop request has to propagate to every system that might trigger a send, not just the one that received it.
  • Cost is per message. A retry loop or a duplicated trigger is directly a bill, and an unbounded one. Sending needs rate limits and deduplication.
Our take

Which route is right for you.

Messaging usually becomes interesting when it is driven by something else — a booking, a shipment, a monitoring alert. That makes it less a Twilio project than an integration project with Twilio at the end of it.

We build the whole chain: the trigger, the decision about whether to send, the message itself, and the confirmation that it arrived. We also host and monitor it, because a notification system nobody is watching is one that will eventually stop working without telling you.

What we build

Work we take on.

  • Reminder & notification systems — appointment, booking, and delivery messages driven by your own data.
  • Operational alerting — SMS or WhatsApp for the events that genuinely warrant waking someone.
  • Two-way messaging — replies routed into your help desk, with context attached.
  • Verification flows — one-time codes and phone verification, implemented sensibly.
  • Consent & opt-out handling — respected across every system that can trigger a send.
  • Sender monitoring — health checks that verify messages are actually going out, not just that the service is up.
FAQ

Common questions

Can you send booking or appointment reminders automatically?

Yes, and it is one of the most reliable ways to cut no-shows. The work is in deciding who gets messaged and when, handling replies, and making sure a reminder is never sent twice.

Can we use WhatsApp instead of SMS?

Yes, though business messaging on WhatsApp runs through pre-approved templates rather than free text, and approval takes time. We handle the template process as part of the project so it is not a surprise at the end.

How do we know messages are actually being delivered?

By monitoring it deliberately. This channel fails silently — a lapsed credential or a suspended number simply means customers stop hearing from you, and nobody reports a message they never received. We build health checks that confirm sending is working, not merely that the service responds.

Can messaging costs run away?

They can if nothing bounds them — a retry loop or a duplicated trigger is a bill. We build in rate limits, deduplication, and caps as standard.

Do you handle opt-outs and consent?

Yes, and it has to be handled across every system that could trigger a send, not just the one that received the stop request. Rules also vary by country, so the market you send into matters.
